chutzpah: (=chutzpa) 厚颜无耻;放肆无礼

high tail: retreat at full speed;快速移动、撤退;
The actress high-tailed to her villa when reporters began to follow her to the restaurant.

fuddy-duddy:唠叨的人,守旧者;
You're such an old fuddy-duddy!

onus: 负担、负荷、义务;
The onus of proof rests/lies with you, ie You must prove what you say。

comeuppance: 因果报应,应得的惩罚
He got the comeuppance he deserved, nothing more nor less.

spill the beans: 说漏嘴,泄漏秘密
Don't count on her to spill the beans on her own embarrassing rites of passage anytime soon.

anticlimactic: 虎头蛇尾的
Mr Madoff’s guilty plea is especially anticlimactic because he has apparently refused to co-operate with investigators, leaving many a loose thread(线索).

partake: 分担,分享,参与
it is not clear if they knew they were partaking in a fraud.

deep pocket: 财富,财源
Those who channelled investors' money to Mr Madoff, such as his now notorious “feeder funds”, face years of litigation as victims go after those with deep pockets.
